A Southern Twenty-Five on Friday!

Oh hey, it's Friday! Time to hang out with April, Darci, Natashaand Christina!

Sneak peak at the bathroom remodel going on at the Kiawah house:

I love this tile on the floor of the shower! I think that it is going to be my favorite part of the entire bathroom. My family thought I took super long showers before? Good luck getting me to get out of the shower before the water turns cold now!

I am so happy that all of my favorite TV shows are back on right now: The Voice, Nashville, and Scandal. I love the group that they have on The Voice now and it's been wayyy too long since I've seen an episode of Scandal!

This bike:
I have a perfectly good bike to ride at the beach that I bought last summer for my birthday. It's just right for me. But I ran into this bike at the sports shop last weekend and had to remind myself a million times that I did not need this bike. I have a bike. I do want a new bike but I want that bike to be one that I can use in Charlotte & on trails, not just at the beach. But this bike is so pretty & perfect & I want it. Bad. Seriously. There are pictures of this beauty on my phone.

Last night's Wine for a Cure was a huge success! Check back next week for a full post with all of the pictures from the event but here's a couple to hold you over until then:

Tomorrow is March 1? Uh, what? Whatever. I have a lot of things that I'm looking forward to in March...
Corporate Cup 5K with a big group from work
Race to the Green 5K
a Bachelorette weekend in Savannah {especially since it's a 3 day weeked + I've never been to Savannah}
Warmer weather
Longer days
Daylight Savings Time
+ Mercury is no longer in retrograde...

Happy Friday! Happy Weekend!

Red's Ice House: A Lunch of Biking, Beers, & Burgers

I've been coming down to Kiawah for almost a year now and while I had heard a lot about Red's Ice House, I had never actually made it there for a meal. I decided this past weekend that the weather was perfect enough to bike over to Seabrook Island and eat lunch outside at Red's.

So my mom & set out on our bikes to head to Red's Ice House while my dad finished up some bathroom construction stuff {more on that later this week!} before driving out to meet us.

No bike ride is complete without a stop by a boardwalk to check out the beach.

We found a table outside... close enough to still be able to see the TVs inside but outside enough to enjoy the warm weather, sunshine, and view of the marina. It might not be summertime yet but the place was fairly busy due to the gorgeous weather. I can't imagine this is going to be the best place to go in the summer when both Kiawah and Seabrook islands are packed with people but it's a great place to go in the offseason.

I ordered a pimento cheese burger with bacon {no surprise there}

My dad ordered the chicken fingers

& my mom ordered a Ceasar salad with spicy grilled shrimp

& we also might have been talked into a bucket of beer since we all ordered the same beer. I started a trend with my selection and we figured bike riding would still be possible post-lunch {for the record: it was}.

All in all it was a great afternoon sitting out by the marina. I'll definitely go back here! Especially if it is another sunny, pretty day where I can ride my bike to & from and sit outside. I'm also kind of interested to see in the summer if this is a place that people go to drink because there aren't that many bar options on Kiawah or Seabrook...

Wine for a Cure

Alright... I know many of you who read this blog live in Columbia and many of you love to drink wine and many of you love to help out a good cause so...

This Thursday night, February 27th, you should come out to 116 State Street between 5:30 and 8:30pm. Why?

Because you can Wine for a Cure.

Patrick's mom was diagnosed with APL Leukemia in October 2012 and this April, his sister Amy is running the Rock & Roll Half Marathon in her honor to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society through Team in Training. While their mom is doing so much better, it doesn't mean that that's the case for everyone & they still need to do a lot more research on blood cancers. And that, y'all, is why you need to come out.

There will be wine by the glass & the bottle depending on the type of day or week that you've had and116 will be donating a portion of the wine sales to Amy's fundraising goal for her Half Marathon.

There will be silent auction items from m. Gallery & Interiors, The Caddy Shak, Classy Nails & Spa, and Sarah Kolb.

There will be lots of awesome people in attendance.

I've heard the food is delicious.

And honestly, why not?

If you're in Columbia you should come out on Thursday night. I hope to see you there!

Disappearing Act

Whoops, didn't mean to disappear on y'all! Have you ever had one of those weeks where one minute it's Monday & the next minute it's Friday but somehow it was the longest week ever?

Here's what you can blame for that:
House of Cards
Spontaneous road trip
Unexpected road trip
A nice {not so little} rock to my windshield
Long days at work
a Saturday at work
Necessary drinks after
and on,
and on,
and on.

Hopefully I'll be back to regular posting soon :)

A Snowy Southern Twenty-Five on Friday!

It has snowed three straight days this week and I'm not kidding when I tell you that I loved every single minute of it.

Well except for when I was stuck in meetings at work and didn't have a clear view out the window. I got caught more than once leaning back in my chair to catch a glimpse of it out of a window in a room across the hall. I didn't love missing the snow then!

But this week has gone by soooo fast thanks to all of the snow adventures & it's already Friday. Time for some Friday five with April, Darci, Natashaand Christina!

This week's 5 on Friday had a special picture request so...

The snow this week meant that I got to wear my boots again! I've finally broken them in enough this winter where they are finally incredibly comfortable to wear around everywhere.

I'd like to say that I got a lot done around my apartment while being snowed in this week but uh... there are dirty dishes in the sink and my laundry from last week is still hanging out in my dryer. Whatever. I thoroughly enjoyed reading, taking naps, watching the Winter Olympics, staring out the window at all the snow coming down, taking pictures, and making a snow video for my best friend. I even got up, showered, put in my contacts, put on make up, and put on real clothes yesterday. And then proceeded to fall asleep on the couch as soon as I was done getting ready.

The highlight of my day might have been late yesterday afternoon when I went outside to try to dig my car out a little bit while the snow was melting and hadn't refrozen yet. It was fun to get outside and wage war against the snow on my car... not quite Lorelei snow rant worthy because I thoroughly enjoyed the snow, but the same effort was there. But anyway, after I dug my car out of the snow somewhat, I decided to go explore the outside world and walk around on the roads by my apartment complex. It was quiet, peaceful, and the sunset was amazing last night.

Oh! & HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY. Thanks to the snow, my cards will not make it to their recipients in time and I'll probably be stuck at home this weekend. Have I mentioned that this is the third year out of five that it has snowed on Valentine's Day weekend?

2010 in Clemson.
2013 in Charlotte.
2014 in Charlotte.

Because it is Valentine's Day, I'll end this post with a little Chuck & Blair... because, let's be honest. How can you not be completely in love with them?

Happy Snowy Valentine's Day Friday!

Valentine's Day Cocktail Party

This past weekend, my friends Kelsey & Josh decided to host a Valentine's Day Cocktail Party at their house... and I'm glad they did! There was a lot of good food, some really {really, really, really} fantastic drinks, and fun people to hang out with. Plus Kelsey got crafty and had some sweet Valentine's Day decorations put up around their house!

I took my camera out a little too late in the game so while there may have been 200+ pictures taken, they aren't exactly the best pictures to share :)

 The hosts!

I really love this chalkboard wall & will now need one whenever I move into a house...

 4/5 girls

 All of the girls!

Seriously. Go check out Kelsey's blog. If you ask her nicely I bet she'll even explain how she made her cute decorations ;)

Thanks for having us all over!

Sunshine On My Mind

I'm beginning to think that gorgeous, 60+ degree weather around here means that a snowy, wintry mess is on the way. Sure enough, a couple days after a gorgeous weekend, I'm snuggled up in my apartment and there's a mess of snow outside.

Y'all know I love my snow. Like, really love my snow.

As long as the ice stays away & my power stays on, let it snow!

But hey, this post isn't about snow {but you can expect one soon}. I've got a little sunshine on my mind today... I'm linking up with Lauren & Miranda for summer vacation plans because what else do you dream about when its 2 degrees out?

I bet you can't guess where I can't wait to vacation this summer.

I am looking forward to:
family time
lots of long bike rides
laying on the beach
summer beach reads
sunset drinks on our boardwalk
sleeping in
turtle patrol
low country boil
birthday celebrations
morning beach walks
late night beach walks
trips to freshfields village

I'm determined this summer to see a baby turtle {that doesn't die two minutes later} and a mama turtle. Considering how lucky I wasn't with either of those last summer I'm not too hopeful for this summer... but it won't be for a lack of trying!

141 days until Vacation 2014. Sigh.

A Southern Twenty-Five on Friday!

Well this has been a weird week... I'm thankful that it's Friday & that I finally have my voice back! Somewhat at least...

Here's to another Five on Friday with April, Darci, Natashaand Christina!

These coasters.

C'mon. You can't get much more Southern or low country than these. They're form Carolina Clay Gallery in Freshfields Village on Kiawah and are by artist Marina Cantlon. I've had my eye on them since this summer and I finally have two of my own {thanks, mom!}

Greatest. Thing. Ever.

I don't know why I was so skeptical about these wonderful slow cooker liners. They're fantastic & make already easy meals even easier.

You've seen these little pancake dippers on Pinterest before, I'm sure. I finally got around to testing the theory out {clearly I can't follow instructions...}
Pancake + Bacon = amazingness.

But let's be real. Bacon makes everything better so you really couldn't go wrong by adding it to your pancake even if it doesn't look perfect.

Sometimes I'm not sure my brother and I are actually related. The Seattle Seahawks' Super Bowl celebration parade wound it's way through downtown Seattle on Wednesday going from the Space Needle all the way down to Century Link Field. Do you know who lives somewhere in that vicinity one block from the parade route and wasn't going to go??

Luckily, my brother is pretty great, and he went and snagged a few pictures for me & a video of the crowd. So wish I could have been there! & yes, that last picture is of a Skittle thrown out into the crowd by Beast Mode.

Speaking of videos... big shout out to every single person that entertained me this week while I was laying on the couch feeling miserable & coughing my head off. Multiple snow videos from Missouri, videos/pictures from Seattle, Netflix recommendations, Words with Friends games, new blogs to read, etc. I'm more than a little pitiful when I'm sick and I get bored really, really fast so I was happy for the entertainment :) Thanks, y'all!

Have a great Friday & a great weekend!

Pinterest Recipe Test: One Pot Cheesy Sausage Pasta

A few weeks ago, I decided that I needed to start actually making some of the recipes that I pin rather than just pinning and forgetting about them. The first recipe was a total hit so I was pretty excited to make the next one.

One Pot Cheesy Sausage Pasta

1 tbsp of olive oil
1 package Hillshire Farm Smoked Sausage, sliced
1 tbsp minced onions {or 1 cup diced onions if you want the real deal}
1 tbsp minced garlic
2 cups chicken broth
1 {10oz} can of Rotel
1/2 cup milk or heavy cream
8oz dry pasta
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1/2 tsp crushed red pepper
1 cup shredded Cheddar Jack cheese

1. Add olive oil, sliced sausage, and onions to a pot over medium high heat. Cook until sausage is lightly browned.
2. Add garlic & cook for about 30 seconds.
3. Add chicken broth, Rotel, milk, pasta, salt, pepper, & crushed red pepper.
4. Bring to a boil then cover & let it simmer for 15 minutes or until pasta is tender.
5. Add in the cheese & stir.
6. Serve & enjoy!

Let me tell you what I loved about this recipe.

It really is just a one pot recipe.
It was ready in under 30 minutes - prep & cooking time included.
It was cheesy, creamy, and delicious.
Most of the ingredients {outside of the cheese} are things that I always have stocked in my pantry & fridge.
& holy cow the leftovers are even better!

I am 2 for 2 on Pinterest Recipe Tests so far... now I'm off to find what my next recipe is going to be!

The Easiest Dessert Ever: Hershey Symphony Bar Brownies

No, I don't like brownies because I don't like chocolate but yes, I can cook things that I don't like to eat. Mainly because I know that other people will like it and that's good enough for me.

These were original Nestle Crunch Bar Brownies but morphed into a Hersey Symphony Bar Brownie recipe instead. All of the credit for showing me this recipe & then switching up the chocolate bars goes to my mom for sure.

Hershey Symphony Bar Brownies

1 box of brownie mix + ingredients required for brownies
3 large Hershey Symphony Bars w/ toffee & almonds {not the just chocolate kind}

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
2. Prepare brownie batter as instructed on the box
3. Grease a 9x13 baking dish & pour half of the brownie batter into the dish.
4. Layer the Symphony bars across the top of the first layer of batter.
5. Pour remaining batter into the dish.
6. Bake for 30 min.

As simple as this recipe was and as little time as it took to make, I definitely lost interest in it & had some help with it. It's hard to stay super interested in cooking something that you're not even going to eat... let's just say that these brownies definitely would not have been made without the "declumping" help and the taste testers.

I had thumbs up approval from the two people around who actually eat chocolate {can you believe that not only do I not enjoy chocolate, but I have friends that don't enjoy it either?!} and I felt pretty good about taking them to a Super Bowl party this weekend. Holy cow. People gobbled these up. I think everyone who had one had at least another one {if not more}.

I'm going to assume that means these were pretty delicious. I'll have to take y'all's word for it!
