#stillnotarunner

{that title is for you, Hayden!}

I ran my first 5K ever on May 5, 2013. I finished it in 30:15. I went home, showered, dried my hair, and fell asleep on my couch for about four hours.

That was the day that I realized that even though I might not be able to run an entire 5K, I could at least complete it in a respectable time with a combination of jogging/walking. It didn't matter that I was exhausted afterwards because what mattered is that I did it.

Was that the day that my need to run in 5Ks was born?

I don't think it was.

There was a small spark there but it wasn't anything sustainable.

What fanned that small spark was all of the support, intentional & unintentional, provided by my friends and family.

So... after racing in nine 5Ks over the last 7 months...

{via}

Thank you to every single one of my friends that has run in a 5K with me. Just signing up for the 5K with me held me accountable to following through with the race & showing up to run. It doesn't matter if it was one time or six times, it helped & I appreciate it.

A huge thank you especially to Jessie (4) & Corbett (6) who ran in the most 5Ks with me. It's hard to stay away from a race when you have two people you work with emailing back and forth about different 5Ks to sign up for. It's easy to sign up for a race when you know at least two other people who will sign up for it with you.

& thanks to everyone else along the way who had encouraging words & thumbs up & high fives for me each step of the way.

If you had told me on New Year's Eve last year that in 2013 I would run in nine 5Ks in the next year... I would have asked what you were drinking. I'm not even sure I believe it now. But out of everything from this past year, all of the running is what I am the most proud of, especially this race.

Although now I have to wonder where I'll be this time next year & what "I can't believe I actually did that" thing I'll be reflecting on then...

The Best Sugar Cookies Ever

I know, I know, it's after Christmas... why am I sharing a sugar cookie recipe now? Answer: because I wanted pictures to go with it & I never make cookies until Christmas eve. But, you don't have to limit sugar cookies to Christmas! They're fantastic all year :) Although after the last two weeks of eating and drinking {and eating and drinking some more} I'm staying far away from the sugar cookies.

Anyway.

Best Sugar Cookies Ever
+ a ton of pictures {photo credits to my mom}

Ingredients
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup Crisco
1 cup sugar
1 slightly beaten egg
1 tablespoon vinegar
2 1/2 cup flour
1 scan teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla flavoring
1/2 teaspoon baking soda*

*I accidentally put in a whole teaspoon of baking soda. It came out just fine.

Directions
Cream butter, Crisco, and sugar. Add egg, vinegar, flour, salt, baking soda, and vanilla. Mix well. Roll into small balls and place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Dip bottom of a small glass in sugar and press down on cookie dough balls. Bake at 350 for 6-8 minutes or until light brown on edges*

*We ended up cooking ours almost 12 minutes.

This recipe comes from an old school PLC cookbook

How old is the cookbook? At least 20 years old... back to when I didn't know how to properly spell "flour" or how to look on the page to find the correct spelling...

& enjoy my mom playing photographer!

{Yes, that is a Griswold Family Christmas shirt. I mean when else are you supposed to wear it, if not on Christmas Eve?}

Cheers to a New Year: October, November, & December

With less than 5 days to go in 2013, it might be about time to wrap up recapping the year.
Peach State of Mind

{October}
The first weekend was full of Luke Bryan and tailgating.

I went to my first ever Charlotte Social meet up which was a jewelry making party.

We won't talk about this weekend but at least we have fun pictures from it...

{November}

I ran the hardest 5K I've ever run {too many hills} but still managed to win 1st place for my age group.

I went to my first brewery and loved it

The end of November was a blur of Clemson football games, Carolina football games, and Clemson/Carolina football games, friends, the best 5K ever, and an Oyster Roast.

{December}

December started off with the ACC 5K in which I met two goals: take a picture with every ACC mascot & keep my 5K under 30 minutes.

I went to the Charlotte Social Ornament Exchange and met some awesome bloggers and came home with a cute new ornament for my tree.

I went to my first ever Food Truck Friday with friends from work where we decided it was cool to take a picture from shortest to tallest...

My best friend stopped by for a 2 second visit!

Then it was time for Christmas :)

Whew. Ready for 2014!

Merry Christmas Eve!

It's one of my favorite days of the year and I am ready to head out for a little last minute Christmas shopping, Christmas Eve service at church, playing chauffeur for my grandmother, and Christmas cookie baking/decorating. So much to do, so little time to blog.

Christmas Eve 2012 was before the blog so...

Cheers to a New Year: July, August, & September

Back again with another Cheers to the New Year post... we've been through January, February, & March and April, May, & June so now it's time to take a look back at July, August, & September. It's that time of the year where I always seem to hit fast forward on my life.

Join in on the fun by linking up with LaurenKerriAshleyMiranda, & Laura for the Cheers to a New Year link up party.

Peach State of Mind

Ready? Set? GO!

{July}
In July, we took our first ever {ok, first in like 15 years} family vacation to the beach for a week.

I decided it was a fantastic idea to run a 5K while on vacation so I woke up bright and early on the 4th of July to head out for a 5K through the woods. My mom came to watch!

Hands down the best picture to describe how my family feels about me forcing everyone to take a family picture.

 & the impromptu, unplanned, right before we hit the road picture turned out the best:

& then I turned 25! Jessie and I celebrated our birthday weekend with a 5K, potter painting, and a party with funfetti cupcakes:

I did a little Birthday/new-position-at-work celebrating and bought a bike:

My parents signed the contract on their cute little house at the beach:

Mmm. Queen's Feast. CHIMA.

& then it was off to Greenville to celebrate Erin & Eric's wedding:

Whew.

{August}

August started out on the road to Atlanta to see Jay & Ashley tie the knot, where I made the {not too surprising} discovery that I cannot drive in Atlanta.

I finally took the plunge and joined the blogging world and started A Southern Twenty-Five.

I ended the month with a bang... two football games & a wedding!

{September}

I went to my first ever Greek Fest with Jessie, Corbett, and Jarvis

 I went to my first ever Zoofari with Patrick

 & I went to my first ever Homecoming in Godfrey Hall as an alumni {but 10th Clemson homecoming}

Ready for the end of the year?! Maybe? Maybe not? It's less than 2 weeks away...
