Three Days of Awesome

If I can wake up every day and do the following, I would be one happy girl

Wake up to the sun, not an alarm, and hang out in bed for a little while reading a book.

Head out to the Farmer's Market to pick up some fresh produce for the week.

Go for a long bike ride on the Greenway.

Hit up the pool {or beach!} with sunscreen and a good book.

& then top of the day with delicious food, drinks, and awesome friends.

Yeah, I think that I could do that every single day or at least every single day until football season. Then I'd want at least one day a week that looked something like this:

Only 94 more days until the Tigers take the field again!
{yes, I'm excited!}

A Southern Twenty-Five on Friday!

I'm going to be sad when my streak of four day work weeks comes to an end. By the end of it I will have had four day weeks 4 out of 5 weeks. Not bad, right? At least I have one more next week before the streak ends.

That being said, it's Friday again, and it's time to dive into the Five on Friday with April, Darci, Natashaand Christina.

Visited the Total Wine in Columbia last week to stock up on some beer for our beach trip. Came across this wonderfulness:

My favorite beer in a can.

Perfect for drinking at the beach or by the pool where glass bottles are frowned upon.

Three. Day. Weekend.

Nothing like coming back from vacation and realizing that you have a long weekend to look forward to. It softens the blow of being back at work a little bit.

{four}
Memorial Day Weekend is perfect for...
a trip to the farmer's market
grilling out
early morning bike rides
days at the pool
Charlotte Knight's baseball games
kayaking

& I intend to partake in each and every one of those activities!

{five}
It's officially summer & I need some books to read! I'm re-reading the Harry Potter series for about the 100th time and can't figure out what to pick up after I finish... any suggestions?

Happy Friday & Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

The Day the Gator Went Chomp Chomp

Alligator heaven y'all, alligator heaven.

I cannot even begin to tell you how pumped I was when we got back from being on the beach all day to find this big guy {girl?} in the backyard last Friday.

Then she spotted me. Don't worry. I was on the deck with the door wide open just in case she decided to make moves & climb up the deck steps {unlikely, I know, considering the deck steps are on the opposite side from the gator but I was prepared anyway}

There's a possibility that our gator is a female because we think there are some little gator eggs right on the edge of the lagoon. This gator has been very protective of one area in the lagoon lately and it is mating season so... we might have some more babies soon!

She looks a little friendly though, don't you think?

One of last year's babies hanging around the lagoon.

Now let's move on to my favorite moment... had I not been on the deck, I would have been running in the opposite direction as fast as possible at this.

Didn't seem to bother this guy though who thought it was a great idea to wander into the backyard, barefoot, and take some pictures.

After a day of drinking on the beach, you can only imagine the things we were saying about this guy from the safety of the deck/kitchen...

My gator mission is now complete! Except now that I look back on that post I realize that I was almost as foolish as this guy with getting close to a gator. But, to be fair, the gator was much further away and there's a little optical illusion going on in that picture. Big difference.

Now for the sea turtle mission.

I'm hoping to come across a turtle coming up to lay eggs on the beach one night, a baby turtle, and if I'm suuuuuuper lucky, a turtle nest hatching. Here's to a summer full of turtles!

So I Thought I Could Dance

Actually, no, I never really thought that I could dance. I know very well that my dancing skills are nonexistent and that whatever I might consider to be dancing shouldn't be showcased in public. Ever.

Unless it's shag dancing because I can halfway pull that off.

But, let's be real. Don't let the picture above fool you.

I can't dance.

& unfortunately, my terrible dancing skills were captured on camera this weekend {there might even be video somewhere}. You be the judge though.

Exhibit A: yes, that's a stuffed animal giraffe.

Exhibit B

Exhibit C: even my mom is questioning my skills.

Exhibit D: no words.

Exhibit E: I never know what to do with my hands when I'm dancing so they usually end up in the air.

Exhibit F: dancing on the edge of the dance floor. By myself.

& that, y'all, is why I shouldn't ever dance in public... or at least not when there are cameras around.

To Sum It Up

The last four days have been an insane whirlwind of family, friends, alligators, pimento cheese, wedding celebrations, oysters, corn hole, beach time, fantastic dance moves, sunshine, and sand.

Oh, and 1,658 pictures.

Here's a little sneak peek for y'all. Don't worry. I won't bombard you with all 1,658 pictures this week but be prepared for quite a few of them to show up.

All in all it was a wonderful weekend celebrating Eric & Melissa. We ate, drank, laughed, partied, danced, and made new friends. I was incredibly sad to leave the island yesterday but the fact that I still have one more day with my family before heading back home makes up for it!

Anyway, I'm off to spend one last day in my mom's classroom. I've been in and out of her classroom for 25 years and today's the very last day that I'll get to go hang out with her at school. After 39 years, she's on her final countdown to retirement: 13 days.

Catch y'all later this week!

A Southern Twenty-Five on Friday: Vacation Style

It's Friday. I woke up at the beach. It's warm. It's sunny. I'm getting ready to go biking. I get to see my brother in two hours! I get to hang out on the beach after lunch. I get a whole weekend with my family & with some other fantastic people.

So here's a quick Five on Friday before I get back to enjoying my time at Kiawah!

{one}
It's wedding weekend number three!

I've been waiting for this weekend for quite sometime and I'm glad that it's finally here and that the weather is gorgeous. It's perfect weather for bike riding, laying out on the beach, and celebrating the marriage of an old family friend.

{two}
When I was looking for the perfect dress to wear to a beach wedding, my mom and I stumbled across this one at Belk. Add in some sandals and cute jewelry, and then I'm all set for the wedding tomorrow.

{three}
The weekend doesn't end for me on Sunday because on Monday, I'll be spending the day in my mom's classroom for the last time ever. Some of my earliest memories are hanging out in her classroom on at Congaree Elementary helping clean up for the summer and set up for the school year. In high school & college, I would come by during the school year for a couple hours here and there as I could. Monday will be the final visit to my mom's classroom as she will be retiring at the end of the year... :(

{four}
Palmetto Pimento Cheese.

Enough said, right?

{five}
I was hurrying down the road Tuesday afternoon, trying to get to the Greenway for a little bit of bike riding when I about wrecked my car. Something had caught the corner of my eye as I was zooming by the old vacant Food Lion...

YES! Fresh Market for the win!

See y'all next week :)

Poe's Tavern on Sullivan's Island

The one slightly annoying thing about going to Kiawah is the fact that Kiawah isn't really close to anything other than Seabrook Island. Seabrook, like Kiawah, doesn't have a whole lot going on in terms of restaurants. There are a few here and there {like Red's Icehouse} but nothing like your typical "beach" restaurants you find at places like Isle of Palms, Sullivan's Island, Folly Beach, etc.

So when I found out exactly how close we would be to Sullivan's Island the other weekend, I knew that we would be making a trip out there to eat lunch at Poe's TavernThe last time that Patrick and I had lunch at this restaurant was over four years ago and pre-pimento cheese obsession.

On pretty days, Poe's opens up all of their garage doors/windows and they let the warm ocean breeze and tons of sunlight in. The seating is first come, first served and you sit wherever you can find a seat at lunch. We picked to sit up at the bar.

Naturally, I had to have the Gold Bug Plus burger with pimento cheese. Patrick ordered the Spiced Yellowfin Tuna fish tacos.

Y'all.

I've had about a million pimento cheese burgers before but this might have been one of the best. I originally thought that there was too much pimento cheese on it and scraped some off... but ended up putting every bit of the cheese back on the burger. That stuff was awesome.

This is such a great little restaurant to go to when you're at the beach. I bet it's even better for dinner after hanging out on the beach all day! They had a good beer selection too but since we were driving back to Columbia right after lunch, we passed on the drinks this go around.
