How is it already Monday again?
I took a half day on Friday to go home and squeeze in a shake out run before we hit the road down to Kiawah.
2.5 miles around our neighborhood at a 9:15/mile pace = perfect shake out run, 100% ready for the Kiawah Half.
We arrived to Kiawah just in time for dinner: Crockpot Spaghetti made by my dad.
Saturday morning was the main event of the weekend: the Kiawah Half Marathon!
I love that the start line for this half marathon is a short walk from my parent's house down on the island. And by short, I mean 1.86 miles. I thought it was only a half a mile or so... clearly I'm not good at estimating distances. I took a slight detour up a closed boardwalk ramp to check out the sunrise over the ocean.
Gorgeous, perfect day for a half marathon.
Naïve little runners, still all smiles at 7:50am in the 35 degree weather wearing tank tops.
{notice everyone else behind us bundled up in long sleeves, hats, gloves, hoodies... not us!}
So how did the race go?
It... went. I finished. I'll have more for you about the race tomorrow but to say it went badly would be an understatement. I've signed up for a 5K this coming weekend because my running ego needs a good boost after this particular half.
At least I got some delicious Chicken Bog after the race!
And a trip out to my favorite Johns Island brewery, Low Tide Brewing.
AND some snacks and a glass of wine at Fortyeight at Freshfields.
I may not have run the race that I wanted this weekend, but at least I did an excellent job celebrating the completion of yet another 13.1 miles.
Now onto the important things: CHRISTMAS!
Patrick and I spent yesterday afternoon/evening doing all sorts of Christmas things. We picked up some garland to decorate our front steps with, we added some more Christmas lights inside our house, we decorated my little fake tree from my apartment days, we addressed/stamped our Christmas cards, and we watched the first Harry Potter.
Whew. Busy weekend but I'm ready for more Christmas things this week!
