The Longest 3 Hours

Name of the game: distract each other as much as possible for the next three hours.

Three hours can seem like an eternity. But luckily, it was a sunny, gorgeous Sunday afternoon in early April and were able to find plenty of things to do. We checked out the Fireflies fan fest. We went to our favorite local brewery {River Rat} for a drink or two. We headed into the Vista to Old Chicago Taproom for an early dinner.

And all I did was stare at my phone, waiting for it to ring.

Three hours came & went.

Nothing.

I couldn't handle it anymore, so I picked up my phone and started playing around. I checked Facebook and Instagram and my email and THERE IT WAS.

An email from our realtor telling us that the offer we put in on a house just three hours ago had been accepted {!!!!!!!!!!!!}

Our epic house hunt had finally come to an end. This house didn't disappear on us before we had a chance to look at it. This house didn't break our heart after we fell in love with it and put an offer on it and get rejected. This house was ours.

Here's the short story of how it happened:

Patrick called me at 4pm on a Friday to let me know a new house had popped up. We didn't know anything about it, just that it was on a street in the exact area we wanted to be in. Then the description showed up and we knew we had to see the house. Patrick started texting with our realtor that night to see how quickly he could get into the house Saturday morning. Then the pictures showed up and we knew that we'd be putting in an offer as soon as Patrick checked out the house in person.

He got into the house at 11am on Saturday, gave me a tour via FaceTime, we put in a verbal offer, and we waited. This all happened during a particularly crazy weekend in early April {this one} and we were unable to put in our official offer until Sunday when we were both back in Columbia. Our realtor called us late Saturday evening to tell us there was another offer on the house. I almost cried.

On Sunday, we got back into town and went straight to the house. I got to see it in person as we signed our official offer and our realtor headed off to present it to the seller's realtor. We put a 5pm deadline on the offer. At 5:19pm, we got word that the seller had accepted our offer!

... want to know how we celebrated?

We let our families know. I used a lot of emojis.

We hopped in Patrick's truck and did a victory lap around downtown Columbia with the windows down, blaring "My House" by Flo Rida.

We went to the rooftop bar at the Marriott downtown and toasted with champagne.

We got back into Patrick's truck to continue our victory lap with "My House" on repeat.

We drove by our new house and took a selfie with it.

We stopped by Publix, grabbed a chilled bottle of champagne and went to my house to toast with my parents.

Check back tomorrow morning for some actual pictures of the house {yay!} and what my five very favorite things about it are.

  10. Congrats on your house! It's so scary to make an offer on a house that you love, and not know if the sellers will accept! All that champagne was definitely needed for celebrating!
