Weekending

Ah... a nice, low key weekend where we stayed put in Columbia. It was exactly the kind of weekend that we needed before all the craziness starts up this Friday: four straight weekends of traveling for a wedding, for bridal portraits, for Memorial Day Weekend, and for our respective Bachelor/Bachelorette Weekends.

The weekend basically started at lunch on Friday when my favorite coworker & I decided to take a spontaneous lunchtime trip to the zoo to walk around. I completely forgot that Fridays in May are primetimes for elementary school classes to take field trips to the zoo... they were everywhere! But we still managed to see most of the animals and to hang out with the giraffes.

We followed it up with drinks at Craft & Draft and dinner at Henry's {my two very favorite places to go to on Devine Street}

Saturday morning, for the very first time ever, I volunteered at a 5K! We can officially check that off of my 2016 Running Goals list. I hated not being able to run the 5K but it was pretty neat seeing things from an entirely different perspective.

Patrick & I stumbled across a new-ish place in The Vista after the 5K: The Wired Goat.

We've seen this place before {since it's located right between our favorite Grill Marks & Twisted Spur Brewing} and have talked about going many times. Well, we finally made it this weekend and we'll be back. Patrick loved their coffee & sandwiches and this turkey/cheddar/bacon panini was amazing.

The highlight of the weekend though was showering this bride-to-be at her Bridal Shower Saturday afternoon.

You can't really go wrong when champagne & good friends are involved.

& of course, we celebrated Mother's Day on Sunday with a home cooked meal {steak!} for my mom and grandmother. We wrapped up the weekend with an afternoon {and a drink} at the pool with some good friends.

BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, one of my maids of honor is finally, finally, FINALLY back in the country! After spending the better part of the last few years studying, living, and teaching abroad {in places like Jordan, Peru, France, and Egypt}, she's home for an extended period of time. Like... for a few years. So we're all super excited that she made it home safe and sound and that she pulled off the sneaky surprise of a lifetime. She chose to surprise her parents and not tell them that she was moving back home or that she had a new job already lined up or anything. Great Mother's Day surprise, right? The real surprise is that neither her sister nor I managed to ruin the secret despite several close calls :)

Hope you all had a fantastic weekend!

  7. That shower looks so fun! I was at the park outside of our zoo doing yoga this weekend and was thinking an adult trip to the zoo was in order, this seals it! Glad your friend is back, so good to have your girls nearby!
