Wine-ing at the Tailgate

If you haven't noticed, our drink of choice at a Clemson tailgate is wine.

It might be because we have a really cute wine glass to drink out of.

Patrick's mom found this wine glass originally and gave it to me one year for a birthday present. It lasted one whole season until it rolled out of the back of my tailgate and broke in half on the driveway. Patrick to the rescue! Not only did he buy me a new one in time for the next game, but he bought a matching one for my mom.

These glasses are hands down my favorite tailgate accessory. They also get broken out when we're at home for games because hello, always have to drink out of this wine glass on game day.

But back to the wine.

Qualifications for a great tailgate wine are simple:
1. Not be expensive. I don't know why, but it seems like tailgate wine shouldn't be more than $10 a bottle.
2. Got to have a screw cap. Nobody wants to bother with a wine bottle opener when at a tailgate - it's so much easier just to unscrew the top and go.

We've found quite a few pinot grigios over the years that we really like and that have been perfect for tailgating.

La Delizia Pinot Grigio

Kris Pinot Grigio

Kiwi Cuvee Pinot Grigio

Any suggestions for wine we should try at our tailgate?

We've also been known to buy two packs of mini wine bottles for our girls' only tailgates. Mainly because it keeps sharing the wine fair ;)

  1. Sounds like a good time for wine! Tailgating. Screw tops are a nice way to go when out and about. I love the glasses, every team should be sporting them. Visiting from Wino Wednesday.

  4. Do you like champagne? If so, you can buy the Sofia Copolla mini champagnes at the store, and best yet, they are in cans! and come with a straw!

  8. You should try underwood wine in a can. They make a Pinot noir and Pinot grios. It's perfect for pool, beach and tailgates. Has half a bottle in one can and you can get it at total wine!

  9. I have a Kentucky tervis wine tumbler that looks just like that - it's perfect! I have also found that it conveniently holds a 12 ounce beer as well. ;)

  10. Not going to lie, I never really drink wine at tailgates, but it sounds really good to minimize the headaches I tend to get early in the 4th quarter from my usual mix of jello shots, mixed drinks, and beer from flip cup haha.
