Just Keep Running

I had all of the excuses lined up this past Sunday morning.

It was a really long, really hot day yesterday. I just want to lay in bed.
I definitely didn't drink enough water yesterday.
I need to do laundry, vacuum, go to the grocery store, and clean up around the house.
I want to lay on the couch and watch recaps of all of Saturday's games.
I want to hang out with my husband who I barely saw more than two minutes yesterday.
Breakfast? Pancakes & sausage sound so much better.
We've got errands to run and I don't have time for this.

Y'all, I did not want to run.

But I eventually laced up my running shoes, put on my GPS watch, picked a playlist to run to, and hit the road. Every minute of the run was slow, sluggish, and just as plain ugh as I thought it would be.

I was determined to get the 4 mile run in regardless of how much I was hating every step of it.

I get it. Not every run is going to be easy or enjoyable or energetic. There are going to be days when running is the worst. Running never gets easier but some days I feel better at it than other days. Last Saturday? My run felt awesome. I made the jump from 3 miles to 4 miles with no problems and ran a good time despite the heat, humidity, and general lack of training lately.

I just have to remind myself that for every bad run, there's a good run. The good runs seem to outnumber the bad ones but those good runs usually happen when it's not 90 degrees at 9 o'clock in the morning.

However, I'm embracing the final three days of this summer-like weather. We'll be hitting near record highs today, tomorrow, and Thursday with forecasts in the mid-90s, but then it's all fall from there. Lows in the 50s, highs barely touching 80... bring on fall and the better running weather!

Bring on the fall TV shows, too. This Is Us comes back on tonight and I'm counting down the hours.

  4. I have a million excuses every time I run, too! This morning, my alarm went off and I laid there for a good 5 minutes thinking of every reason NOT to get out of bed...but it was Double Star Day at Starbucks today, and I told myself NO Starbucks unless I got up and ran first. Ha! It worked. Now I need to think of a way to bribe myself tomorrow....lol.
