Glitter, Puff Paint, & Cinnamon Ornaments

Less than 10 hours from now {fingers crossed!} Hannah, Jessie, and I will be on our way to Kiawah for the Half Marathon weekend! To say we're excited would be an understatement.

But last December, before the three of us had even discussed running a half marathon together, we got together for a random girls' night involving applesauce, glue, and a lot of glitter. We decided to revert back to our five year old selves and make Christmas tree ornaments using this recipe. You know, the good smelling cinnamon ones.

We were a little skeptic about our set of ingredients... cause how in the world would applesauce, cinnamon, and glue come together to make an ornament? Turns out... pretty legit set of ingredients and they worked exceptionally well. There were some issues with palmetto trees and snowmen but other than that it wasn't too hard to roll the dough out and cut out our ornaments.

They took awhile to dry but my apartment smelled sooo good for the entire week that they were drying. The three of us went to Hobby Lobby to gather up our supplies for a night of glitter, puff paint, and sequins.

We laid out newspaper and all of our supplies on the table and got to decorating.

... and 5 minutes later, we were all out of ideas with how to decorate our ornaments. Having a huge selection seemed like the best idea when we were making the dough for them but all of a sudden it seemed like the worst idea ever

We ended up with more ornaments than we could possibly need.

The best part of the whole thing? When I went to open up my ornaments this year to decorate my tree, I immediately smelled the cinnamon ones, and was reminded of our girls' night.

I'm not one for putting a bunch of coordinating, store bought ornaments on a tree. I love the ornaments that have the stories behind them and remind me of different things. And I'm totally ok with being reminded of my two favorite running buddies and our girls' night whenever I see those cinnamon ornaments!
