Weekending Snapshots

What a weekend!

I always love weekends in Kiawah, but this one was probably one of my favorites in recent memory. The weather was gorgeous {even if it wasn't quite warm enough to enjoy time on the beach} and the weekend was jam-packed with all things Kiawah & Charleston related.

On Friday afternoon, my friend Camlin and I packed up my car and headed down to the low country. We made it there in record time {there was ZERO traffic} and made it in time to catch the tail end of the sunset. I can't tell you the last time that I made it down on a Friday afternoon before dark.

I was up with the sun on Saturday morning to squeeze in a quick run around the island. I've become so accustomed to running 3.1 miles on Saturday mornings {thanks to 3 back to back 5Ks} that the run was a breeze. It was cool, there was a lack of humidity, and there was a nice breeze. Perfect running conditions!

Camlin and I drove into Charleston later that morning to do a little brunching and a little shopping. On our way out there, we were driving down Maybank Highway when a sign on the side of the road caught our eye.

Um, a brewery? On Johns Island? How the heck did I not know about this place?! We made a mental note to stop back by there on our way back from Charleston.

Once on the peninsula, we stopped at Hominy Grill for brunch. & a drink. Because we were in Charleston to do bathing suit shopping and I don't know about y'all, but I need a drink before bathing suit shopping.

We did a little shopping in and around King Street where I found not one, but TWO bathing suits. Mission accomplished.

On our way back to Kiawah, we stopped in at Low Tide Brewing. They're a brand new brewery {opened on March 12} and y'all, I am in love. It's a super cute little place that serves up some delicious, light, summer time beers. My favorite was the Sweet Caroline Kolsch but they had a few others on tap that I enjoyed. More about this brewery tomorrow!

We took advantage of the gorgeous weather to do a little biking after lunch. My mom, Camlin, and I covered about 10.5 miles Saturday afternoon all over the island, including stops at Night Heron Park, The Sanctuary, The Straw Market, and Beachwalker Park.

 {& yes, we're in matching monogram baseball hats...}

To top off a fantastic day, we got dressed up and headed over to Freshfields to go to Forty Eight Wine Bar where we sampled a few wines and a couple of appetizers.

I definitely recommend the pimento cheese platter. The sharp white cheddar & the spicy were my two favorites.

Whew. What a day, right?

Sunday was a lot less busy with a little sleeping in, a lot of HGTV, a pancake & bacon breakfast, and 13 miles of biking.

Can't wait to get back down to this island in a couple of weeks! Just need the weather to warm up a tiny bit more so I can get in some beach time next time while I'm there.

Happy Monday!

  6. Oh wow. The weather looked absolutely gorgeous and sounds like you guys had a blast! Yay for no traffic on the drive down there. I'd rather sit in traffic coming home then trying to get there! <3, Pamela Sequins & Sea Breezes
