Recipe: Cheddar, Garlic & Black Pepper Biscuits

Biscuits, especially Bisquick biscuits, are one of my favorite breakfast foods.

I grew up making those biscuits based on the recipe on the back of the box. We have made these biscuits for as long as I can remember. There's pictures of a two year old me standing on a bar stool at the island in our kitchen with biscuit dough in my hands and Bisquick covering my face while "helping" my dad make biscuits on the weekend.

But then my dad started changing things up and adding cheese to the biscuits. My picky eating self turned her nose up at that idea. Cheese? In a biscuit? Nope. Give me my plain biscuits, please!

That was until I had the most delicious cheese biscuit that was sprinkled throughout with cracked black pepper at an event back in August. It was the most delicious biscuit ever and I proceeded to eat like five of them in one sitting while trying to figure out how to replicate it.

Cheddar, Garlic & Black Pepper Biscuits

Ingredients
2 & 1/4 cups Bisquick mix
2/3 cup of milk
3/4 cup of shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/8 tsp garlic powder

Directions
1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
2. Mix the Bisquick mix, milk, and garlic powder together in bowl until soft dough forms.
3. Sprinkle counter with Bisquick mix and kneed dough 9-10 times.
4. Roll out dough, sprinkle about half of the cheese & pepper across it. Roll dough back up & kneed again.
5. Repeat step # 4 with the remainder of the cheese & pepper.
6. Roll out dough, cut with a round cookie cutter, and place on baking sheet.
7. Cook in the oven for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown on top.
8. Enjoy!

So far, I am loving this new twist on my classic biscuits. It's cheesy and delicious. If you've never had pepper in a biscuit before... you might be missing out. It's surprisingly good! The next step to these biscuits might be adding in some melted butter on top of the biscuits before popping them into the oven.

Mainly because butter + bread is always a good combination in my books.

I will give you a fair warning though - these biscuits are addictive but the recipe only makes about 9 biscuits pending the size of the round cookie cutter that you use. You may want to double up on the recipe!
