Summer Bucket List

Well, it's June. The sun comes up around 6 o'clock in the morning and doesn't set until almost 9 o'clock at night. The air conditioning is on full blast in most of the buildings that you walk into and ceiling fans are on all day long. I-26 is packed every Friday afternoon headed eastbound towards Charleston and is equally busy on Sunday afternoons headed westbound.

Must be summertime in South Carolina!

Which means I have a whole bucket list of things that I want to do this summer and it's time to buckle down and get to it.

---

1. Go to the beach as much as possible.
Check! I think I've got this one covered already.

2. Find something that I haven't done yet at Kiawah & do it!
Kayaking, paddle boarding, boat tour, fishing trip, etc.

3. Go to the lake as much as possible.
Surprise! I love the lake too, just don't get out there as often as I do the beach.

4. Go on post-dinner evening walks with momma.
Except when it's raining. Or when So You Think You Can Dance is on. 'Cause then we'll be doing this instead...

5. Celebrate my 27th birthday!

6. Take advantage of the outdoor dining options in Columbia and the rooftop bars.
You know... before it's 100+ degrees outside every day.

7. Walk/run/explore the Three Rivers Greenway.

8. Visit the breweries in Columbia that I've been to {River Rat & Conquest} and try the one that I have yet to go to {Swamp Cabbage}.

9. Visit museums in Columbia.
& find good deals to do so! I think the Columbia Museum of Art is offering free admission through this weekend and the State Museum offers admission for $1 on the first Sunday of each month.

10. Volunteer at a 5K.
I won't be doing much running this summer, so I want to take advantage of that and volunteer at a 5K. Running in hot weather? Yuck. Handing out water during hot weather? Yes, please!

11. Make a trip down to Charleston.
I need some more rooftop drinking in my future and preferably not in a fleece jacket this time!

12. Float the river.
Apparently this is a "thing" to do in Columbia during the summertime but I have yet to do it... maybe this summer will finally be the year?

13. Buy a car.
Not looking forward to this one. I love my perfect little Escape but... it's 8 years old and has nearly 150,000 miles on it. Guess it's time for a new one?

14. Take a good long break from training for any races and then in August, train for the Stomp the Swamp 5K.
Someone please remind me in August {when I'm complaining about the heat and humidity} that I wanted to do this race back in June!

15. Plan trips for the fall!
Am I allowed to start thinking about the fall yet? Because I know of at least two little road trip adventures that I want to go on {Louisville & back to Asheville}. We had so much fun on our two road trips last fall that I want to be sure we have plans for more this year!

So what's on your list? What needs to be added to mine?

  2. The river is pretty in some areas, but it has a reputation for being frequented by homeless people and grungy slacker-type college students.

  3. This sounds awesome!! I love your list, and I'd love to maybe meet up for a blogger date if you are ever in Charleston (or you KNOW I will happily come to Kiawah :) ). Maybe some waffles at Java?

  4. It will be so much fun to do something new in Kiawah! It’s hard to balance the lake and the beach in the summertime but I’m hoping to get in some trips to both too! Rooptop bars and dining al fresco are my favorite – but I’m with you, only before it gets too hot!

  5. Louisville!! yay :) I'm jealous of all the things you are able to do though. I love that you're volunteering at a race, I want to volunteer at an Ironman in October, we'll see if I actually do lol. I don't have much of a summer bucket list, really because Louisville doesn't have a whole lot of Summer activities (to me, that's the beach, end of story lol).
