Oh Hey, Friday: 5 Years Ago

Oh hey, Friday!

Ready for a story? Here we go!

---

I was in a panic.

Sure. I had seen plenty of people shag dance before {I did grow up in South Carolina after all} and I had pretended like I knew how to shag dance before, but I certainly had never been taught how to.

There he was, out on the dance floor, shag dancing with every girl at the wedding. He was good. He was spinning girls around... laughing, smiling, having a great time. It felt like he was dancing with everyone {including himself}

Everyone but me. I wanted him to ask me to dance!

I needed to learn how to shag dance, quick. I couldn't stand there and hope that he would ask me to dance if I didn't really know how to shag dance. I'd never be able to keep up with him.

So I asked my dad to teach me how to shag dance.

One-and-two, three-and-four, five, six.

We danced to one song. My dad danced with my mom to show me how it should really look because I just wasn't getting it. We danced to another song.

& then I was on my own.

& then later that night while I was in the middle of a conversation with my friend's mom, the cute boy walked over and interrupted us to ask if I wanted to dance with him.

What?! He's asking me to dance?!

By that point of the night I had had plenty of wine and was going to dance with him no matter how bad I was at shag dancing. In fact, as we walked to the dance floor I apologized repeatedly for the fact that I was a terrible dancer and had just learned earlier that night. He politely ignored what I was saying and danced with me anyway.

Best two minutes ever... until he ran away as soon as the song was over. Seriously y'all. He ran away the second that the song ended.

That was five years ago today.

Five years later... that boy is still dancing at all the weddings he goes to.

But I'm no longer panicking over whether or not he's going to ask me and I'm not worried about impressing him with my dance moves anymore.

He loves to dance with me, {extremely} bad shag dancing skills & all.
